The Sequels

The original 1985 85 episode series was popular enough to warrant some sequels.

The first of the sequels was Robotech The Movie: The Untold Story.

For that, they took the classic anime OVA, Megazone 23 Part One, and combined it with footage from Super Dimension Calvary Southern Cross to tell the story of a failed invasion of the Robotech Masters (that occurred just before the Second Robotech War)

After that, a new T.V. Series was planned that would focus on the continuing adventures of the survivors of the Macross Saga, entitled Robotech II: The Sentinels.

After the Sentinels, there was an attempt at a completely computer animated T.V. Series in the distant future entitled Robotech 3000, but only a few minutes of test footage exists.

Recently, Harmony Gold (The owners of the Robotech franchise) created a direct sequel to Robotech called Robotech: The Shadow Chronicles and it has been released on DVD by FUNimation, and they are currently in pre-production of a second movie, Robotech: The Shadow Rising, which is due out sometime in 2009, but it may be pushed back like Shadow Chronicles was.
