And how do I explain this?

I guess the easiest way would say this:

ROBOTECH is a combination of three distinct anime series: Super Dimension Macross, Super Dimension Calvary Southern Cross, and Genesis Climber MOSPEADA.

These three anime series were combined by a man (both cursed and celebrated by anime fans) Carl Macek to create a multigenerational, giant-robot soap opera way back in the dark ages of the 1980’s (1985 to be exact).

It was syndicated to television stations world-wide, and helped to create the big anime boom that you are currently enjoying today.
